Is this your first Christmas away from home? The first time you are responsible for setting up your own Christmas tree and decorations?Or maybe you’re just looking or Christmas Decorations and Themes ideas.
I remember when Christmas decorations became important to me once I became an adult; it was when I had my first child. It was like the magic was put back into Christmas and it brings joy to watch my kids get excited about setting up our Christmas tree and decorating for Christmas.
This is an exciting time as it is a chance for you to choose your own Christmas theme and decide on your own Christmas decorations. It isn’t a step I would rush in to as you will be faced with the same Christmas decor every year. There are a few things that will help you before buying Christmas decorations.
So let me expand on those points.
Before you go all out and buy the biggest and best Christmas tree in town, you need to consider the space you have inside your home. Simply, will the tree fit? Some people use a Christmas tree for inside and one for outside or they use an established tree that is growing in their yard and decorate it every year.
Consider the rooms you want to decorate, make a list of possible Christmas ornaments for areas of the house. For example, you may want a Christmas centerpiece for your table for a big Christmas lunch or dinner. This may be in the form of Christmas candles with holly and they may be light up ones or just decorative only. You may want blue Christmas tinsel wrapped around your stair rails with pink Christmas lights. The possibilities really are endless but what you don’t want to miss is the planning step. Taking a moment to plan it out a bit can make a difference between an average Christmas display and one that gives you and others the wow factor.
The second point relates to your current decor. Do you have feature colors in your home that you want to highlight with Christmas decorations to match? You may decide on orange Christmas ornaments on your tree based on a feature wall in your lounge area. Or, if your home has plain colors then you can go all out with any color Christmas theme that you want.
My third point about your budget is definitely valid. It isn’t such a bad idea to stop and plan when considering how much you have to spend. Check out some of the Christmas decorations we talk about on our blog. Based on your list of what you think would work well in what location, you can check out the prices online and then decide based on what you want to spend. Keep in mind that it can be nice to buy a few things every year to decorate your Christmas so you don’t need to get everything up front this year.
It might seem strange that I ask you to consider who will be involved with decorating your Christmas, as my fourth point, but if you have toddlers or young children or even elders, you might want to consider using shatterproof and unbreakable Christmas decorations. That way there won’t be any trips to the hospital and you will keep a nice set of baubles or Christmas theme ornaments without having odd ones left every year after some inevitably break. I know this from personal experience. If you do decide to use shatterproof Christmas ornaments until the kids are older then it can take the stress out of decorating and make it more fun.
My last point is one that you want to take quite seriously. Remember that if on a whim you decide to use blue Christmas decorations, you will need to be happy with this the years after. There is a way around this and that is if you incorporate another color with your already selected blue Christmas theme for the following year. You can add orange Christmas decorations to match your blue or pick red baubles or red Christmas lights to break your blue theme.
This is purely a matter of personal taste. Have a look around your neighborhood or check out what cool Christmas decorations your family have used over the years. There may be some Christmas decorations that you have always liked since being a child. The exciting bit is that you get to choose the theme by deciding on the colors and ornaments. I will talk about some Christmas decorations and themes in another article in case you really don’t know where to start.
Have fun decorating your Christmas.
